On the gable end of No.88 Chanterlands Avenue is a painted advertisement: British Gas Light Co. Ltd., Sales & Service Branch Telephone 7109 The company, formed 1824, operated at seven stations including Kingston upon Hull. Consequential of the Gas Act 1948, it transferred to the Eastern Gas Board, and then the North Eastern Gas Board in 1951.
