Looking eastwards towards the Reception area. This centre was previously owned and run as an Environmental Education Centre by the Peak District National Park Authority but is now owned by the YHA who have spent £2M transforming the building into an environmental learning/residential/& activity centre for young people and holiday-makers. It has 144 beds in 36 rooms, the majority of which have en suite bathrooms. It replaces the previous hostel in Castleton village that is now closed and awaiting a ‘change of use’ authorisation. Its official opening as a YHA youth hostel by Tim Loughton MP, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Children and Families took place on 1st May 2012.
