I moved to Tring in 1986 - already this splendid hostelry had been rescued by John and Vicki who had taken over the then-closed pub some 6 years previously. It soon became Tring's premier pub, never leaving the Good Beer Guide. John and Vicki have recently decided to retire and I, along with all the pub's regular clientele wish them a very happy retirement, and every good fortune to the pub's new landlord, Rob, who will take over custodianship of this fine ale house in the next few weeks.
