It's hard to escape these ubiquitous structures in the modern world. Personally, as a photographer, I find these "blots on the landscape" quite dramatic against a stormy winter sky though these particular examples are a lot smaller than the usual statuesque tall metal pylons that stride across the countryside. I'm afraid I don't have the technical knowledge to differentiate between the various types and sizes and what exactly they are for.
