The very first Sheffield Children's Hospital opened in November 1876, in a house 'down the road ' at Brook Hill, where the roundabout is now located … see … Image This quickly became 'too small' and the hospital was moved to a pair of semi-detached houses nearer to the present location … now demolished and (probably) under one of the many University of Sheffield Buildings in this area. The Hospital has continued to grow since those early years … usually in big chunks, or more properly called phases … and improvements are still being made. This picture shows some of the phases … The corner dark brick building, with the tower, was opened in 1902 The dark brick building on its right was opened in 1931 The glass and concrete building was opened in 1958 … and … The modern red brick building on the left opened in 1999 Other phases to the rear make up the complete Hospital.
