Image: © David Dixon Taken: 8 Dec 2013

One of a series of five sculptured birds that were created in 2002 to signal the entrance to Bacup. They refer to the town’s rich industrial history but also look to the town’s future as a vibrant and thriving 21st Century place. The theme of flight reflects the optimism that underpins the revitalisation that is currently taking place in Bacup (http://www.irwellsculpturetrail.co.uk/sculpture.html?name=The%20Birds Irwell Sculpture Trail).
