The statue portrays a Leyland Motors worker leaving the former North Works site, which is now Leyland Market. Old newspaper articles report several incidents of vandalism, including the breaking off of his pipe and an attempt to topple him over. He stands on the corner of the path to the market, on Hough Lane.
