Trowbridge Town Hall was originally built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. The wealthy local clothier (Sir) Roger Brown funded the work with his own money, employing Albert Goodridge to design it. With much celebration, the hall was opened on 14th June 1889 by the Duchess of Albany, daughter-in-law of Queen Victoria. See Image] for a look at the elegant, if controversial, styling of the tower - Pevsner thought it “wild Franco-Elizabethan”!
