Ushers were founded in 1824 by Thomas and Hannah Usher when they took over a small brewery here in Back Street. After many years of quenching the thirsts of the locals, it was eventually the target of various take-overs and acquisitions. By 2004, the site was sold to developers, who knocked down some of the site and converted the rest of the block to apartments.
