The sign is on top of a post at the edge of the car park. The Corbet family were believed to be descended from a Norman, Corbet le Normand (Corbet the Northman). They seem to have settled in Shropshire following the Norman Conquest. The name Corbet means the raven, and not surprisingly this forms a major part of the coat of arms. Image
