The complete cottage is shown here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3760141 . The inserted stone carries the initials N over I.I and the date 1686. The Flemish bond brickwork with contrasting headers is very evident, as is the later brickwork added to raise the later roof construction to give more internal headroom.
