And a sharp drop too. The old railway was originally part of the Midland line and opened in 1886. There was a small station here (known locally as Stroud Wallbridge or Stroud Cheapside) as the line branched off from the main line to the north. The station and the line remained in some sort of use post-war but finally closed to all in 1966.
