The “shabby looking” Radcliffe Building, belonging to Wakefield College, is in the process of being given a £3.8m makeover. Additional floor space has been added to the building plus a new facade. It will house state-of-the-art science labs. The Radcliffe Building is named after Dr John Radcliffe (1650-1714), a famous son of Wakefield, who lived near here as a boy, see Image Radcliffe was a pupil at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School before going on to University College, Oxford. The Radcliffe Library in Oxford was founded by his will.
