Porth-yr-Ogof is a very impressive cave insurgence, where the river Mellte travels for a short distance under ground. As it contains a series of easily accessible passages and chambers, this system is the destination of many youth groups and clubs taking young people for their first speleological experience. This is not to say it's not dangerous - most of the cave takes the form of a deep river and has claimed many lives of inexperienced and indeed some experienced visitors over the years.
