Scarborough Station was designed in 1845 by George Townsend Andrews for the York & North Midland Railway. Due to growing traffic, the station expanded several times. Three Grecian pavilions were added to the front in 1883 to designs by William Bell of the North Eastern Railway. The central pavilion shown breaks out into this baroque clock tower on what is otherwise a restrained building. The pavilion has a blue plaque on it marking the arrival of the Y & N M R in 1845.
