The red notice on the right shows that the gates are locked at 7.30pm. Unlocking time not shown. Old maps show that the road ahead used to be part of Friars Road which is now (2013) the name of two disconnected roads about 300 metres apart in Barry Island. This view is looking towards the site of the former Butlins Holiday Camp located at Nell's Point, so perhaps Friars Road was severed by the construction of the camp.
