This is the partner of the house in Image], with the ramp down to a lower status door below the main one, something like a medieval German merchant's house. It can't be that there is no rear access for the servants - look this small hand gate gives onto a footpath round to the back of the houses. The description on the National Heritage web site merely says "Steps up to door with ornamental iron guard, over basement entry, now garage." https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1063944
