The Garden Village Company sold 16 acres of land to Reckitt & Sons in 1907 to make a recreation ground for their employees. The recreation ground was designed and built by Runton & Barry. The original entrance was from the then Simpson's Lane, now Woodhall Street, as Chamberlain Road was not there at that time. The site was sold by Reckitt's in 2000, and was subsequently known as Brooklands Sports & Social Club. In 2013, approval was given for the unused land to be redeveloped for housing and sports pitches. Site clearance work is currently underway. Illustrated is the ex-groundsman's house, damaged by fire on 22 September 2013.
