St Oswalds Church

Supposedly the site of Heavenfield, where a battle was fought in 635 between Oswald, leading a Northumbrian army, and a Welsh army under Cadwallon ap Cadfan. Oswald won, and restored Northumbria to its position of supremacy in 7th century Britain. The church was rebuilt in 1737.
