A stone befitting a family of local lairds, the Gillespies of Gillespie House. The earliest name is that of Alexander Gillespie who died in 1635; the last name is that of Alexander Gillespie who died in 1910. The family were styled "of Kirktoun and Mountqhuanie" from the 18th century onwards.
