The grey granite memorial is on the south side of the church, at the corner of St Mary's Road and St Mary's Crescent east. The view is towards St Mary's Crescent west. The memorial to the "Glorious Dead" was unveiled by Lieut.-Gen. Sir John Keir KCB on Sunday 9th May 1920. In announcing the forthcoming event the local paper reported that further donations were much needed: a collection would be made. Fully 800 parishioners gathered in the church on the day. After a short service the choir headed a procession to the memorial and after a simple ceremony the vicar, the Reverend E.W.S.Kingdom, read the list of names inscribed on the four panels of the obelisk: 73 men of the parish made the supreme sacrifice.
