The wooded hillside is Pullingshill Wood. The wood is chiefly of beech - which accounts for the russet colours. Some of the nearer trees, still green, are oaks. Walking through Pullongshill Wood earlier, I noticed there were also young (and coppiced) sweet chestnuts - but most of those had already lost their leaves.
