The fourteenth in a series of fifteen plaques unveiled to mark the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012, following the history of Bournemouth through the ages using monarchs' reigns and jubilees as the steps in time. This fourteenth one relates to the reign of Elizabeth II, between her silver and golden jubilees (i.e. 1977-2002). Major developments are the Bournemouth International Centre (opened 1985) and Royal Bournemouth Hospital (early 1990s). The Polytechnic is granted University status. The town's infamous Waterfront building starts to go up (see Image) but will not last long! And The Square is pedestrianized in 1992.
