In true British fashion Lion Gate Gardens turns right at the junction here, leading to the southern end of Kew Gardens entrance at Lion Gate itself. Maybe the odd design was to direct people there from the centre of Richmond but would need a sign here to tell them to turn left for the gardens themselves.
