On the Waterloo-Guildford- Portsmouth line. The view is from the 'down' platform, looking towards Haslemere and Portsmouth. According to Dendy Marshall's 'History of the Southern Railway', this stretch was built by a speculator, before being acquired by the London & South Western Railway, who opened it to traffic at the beginning of 1859.
