The somewhat lugubrious effigy of Sir George Snygge lies in St Stephen's church. He was the city's mayor in 1575, M.P. in 1597, 1601 and 1603; he was also Recorder of Bristol 1593-1604, and is shown here in typical robes of a judge. His epitaph is taken as: 'Here lies the body of Sir George Snygge Knight, Serjeant-at-law, one of the Barons of the Exchequer'. See Image] for a longer view of the interior of the church.
