The arch is composed of red sandstone and conglomerates. Controversy reigns as to the exact dating of these rocks, some maintaining that they are Old Red Sandstones, others that they are some 150 million years younger and belong to the New Red Sandstone period. http://www.habitas.org.uk/escr/summary.asp?item=1148
