Fine houses built c 1720, once the homes of Huguenot silk weavers and later divided into tenements and occupied by others fleeing intolerance and poverty elsewhere in Europe. The Spitalfields Centre at No 19 contains a synagogue and a permanent exhibition telling the stories of many peoples and cultures.
