This was the first day of a change of direction of traffic flow in this one way street as work on the new Borders Railway gathers pace. The bus station in nearby Stirling Street has closed and a new transport interchange will be built in Ladhope Vale adjacent to the reinstated railway line. The traffic changes in Channel Street will remain until the interchange building opens in 2015. There are several empty shops in this main street in the town centre.
