Gatehouse South Bastle

Gatehouse has two bastles - North and South. They were built in the 16th or 17th century but at one point there used to be a group of five bastles in the village. The South Bastle was repaired in the later 20th century and reroofed. It stands two storeys high and has walls about 1.2m thick. A few original features have survived, including a now blocked gable-end doorway.
