In 2007 the Governors of Solihull School commissioned a new music school to be built for the 450th anniversary of the school. Building work was completed in the anniversary year 2010 at a cost of some £3 million. It is named in honour of David Middleton Turnbull (1931-2006) who was for many years head of music at the school. Facilities within the two-storey building include a range of practice rooms, a sound laboratory and a rehearsal room capable of accommodating a full symphony orchestra.
