Drinking fountain, Top Green

This drinking fountain on Top Green is, according to the plaque on the top, "A gift by Mrs Alick Shill Mayoress of Coventry 1916-1918". The small trough at the bottom suggests it was provided for the benefit of dogs, although there may have been provision for 2-legged drinkers from bits at the top that have broken away - there is a loop that may have had a cup chained to it. The spout for the trough is in the mouth of an animal, above which is a knob, much polished by the hands of curious passers by - or disappointed dog handlers. In the left background, traffic is travelling from Kenilworth Road onto Warwick Road.
