This alleyway was built as the way the general public got access to the Sorting Office at the back of the post office. The idea was to separate foot traffic from the vehicles going in and out of the yard. It was closed a week after the post office opened. Separation is now done by time. The collection counter is only open at times when no van traffic ought to be taking place. The public uses the rear gates in the car park. This boundary appears to have some antique significance.
