Burial place of the Black Douglas family including the Good Sir James who was entrusted with taking the heart of Robert Bruce to the Holy Land after the king had died in 1330AD/ Douglas, Symon Loccard and others reached Spain en route to their destination when they were encountered by host of Moors who blocked the way. A skirmish known as the Battle of Teba in which the Lord of Douglas perished after throwing the heart of his king in to the foreign host. Loccard was charged with returning the heart to Scotland but he also ensured James Douglas was returned too. The king's heart was interred at Melrose Abbey (his body is at Dunfermline Abbey) but the body of Sir James Douglas, Bruce's most loyal...and brave lieutenant was interred in St. Bride's Church at Douglas.
