The former fire engine workshop in the yard behind Image] has been converted into the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum http://gmfsmuseum.org.uk/ . The workshop/museum building can be seen behind these two fire engines which are amongst the displays. On the left, PDK 717, is a Dennis Fire Engine with a 125ft Metz turntable ladder, one of the tallest post-war British turntable ladders. It was delivered new to Rochdale County Borough Fire Brigade in 1957 and operated in the area until withdrawn from operational service in 1976. The engine on the right, GNB 217 also a Dennis, was supplied to Manchester Fire Brigade in 1940 and operated from the London Road Fire Station (Image]). It carries a 60ft escape ladder (http://gmfsmuseum.org.uk/museum-collections/appliance-fleet GMFS Museum appliance fleet).
