As inscribed under the eaves, but more usually known as Speech House, this was the administrative centre of the Forest of Dean, where the Verderers and Free Miners met to manage the forest, game, and mineral resources of the area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speech_House . It is now a hotel.
