This tunnel is on the former Hereford and Gloucester Canal near Newent. The canal closed in 1881 and substantial parts of the route were converted into the Gloucester to Ledbury Railway line, also since closed. Work is in hand to restore the canal, as the freshly excavated approach to the tunnel testifies.
