This area was mined extensively for lead, zinc and silver but the farm is free of earlier mining activity. Two old shafts are to the east and south east of the farm. Waen Farm was scene of anti-tithe riots on 20th December 1886. In freezing weather and with heavy snow on the ground a large force of Constabulary from Flintshire, Denbighshire & Caernarfonshire escorting the auctioneers and bailiffs who represented the Ecclesiastical Commission clashed violently with an estimated 4,000 anti-tithe protesters.
