Formerly the Edward Davies Building, it was built to a design by Alfred W S Cross and opened in 1907 as the first purpose built Chemistry laboratories in a British University. It was dedicated to Edward Davies of the Davies family of Llandinam, former treasurer of the (then) University College, whose family had made a donation of £20,000 towards the building, in his memory.
