A Symbolic Stone at St Quivox

Image: © Mary and Angus Hogg Taken: 31 Aug 2013

The top part of this beautifully worked headstone is rather weathered. It shows two winged souls on either side of the crown and heavy hammer that was the symbol of the Incorporation of Hammermen. This organisation included smiths and other trades that used metal. The skull and the bones represent death. The other side is too worn to make out any details but the top of the stone shows a date and initials. As far as I can make them out, they read: 17 DM MT 71
