John Gibson's Grave

Image: © Mary and Angus Hogg Taken: 31 Aug 2013

This beautifully carved stone shows the figure of John Gibson. The skull and bones represent man's mortality as does the hour glass which reminds observers that their time is running out too. The open book represents the Bible. The inscription on the other side shows that John's wife died only a few months after her husband's death. It reads: HERE LYES THE CORPS OF JOHN GIBSON WHO DEPA RTED THIS LIFE THE 7TH OF APRIL 1730 YEARS AGE 52 ALSO THE CORPS OF ELI ZABETH NIEL HIS SPOUS WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE THE 10TH OF AUGUST 1730 AGED 55 YEARS
