I have travelled this line a few times over the years. I always recall the station announcements at Newport station sounding like poetry; "the next train stopping at platform two will be the 11.39 Manchester Piccadilly train, calling at Cwmbran, Pontypool, Abergavenny, Hereford, Leominster, Ludlow, Craven Arms, Church Stretton, Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Wem....etc. Almost as good as the Shipping Forecast...
