Dolphins used to migrate up the nearby River Wyre to their spawning grounds near the source, high in the wild Bowland moors. This was a long, long time ago when unicorns grazed clearings in the lush palm forests that used to cover the surrounding land. Rumour has it that the last dolphin was seen by a homeward-bound treacle miner who had been conducting business at the Fleece Inn.
