Morgan's Mount was a medieval lookout point on the City Walls, which owes its name to one Captain Morgan, who used it to direct a nearby cannon in the English Civil War in the 1640s. He was subsequently killed at the Battle of Winnington Bridge (near Northwich) in 1659, but his name lives on in this construction.
