The building is a 1953 extension to the original 1913 pumping engine house http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3625727 out of shot on the right, now disused. Behind the building is a rectangular covered reservoir, 100 metres long by 80 metres wide. Founded in 1846, Bristol Water provides an average daily supply of 282 million litres of drinking water to more than 1.1 million customers in a 1,000 square mile area centred on Bristol.
