Named as such on Warningcamp's 1840 tithe map and for many centuries it was the village pond. The pond became overgrown and choked during the last century but was tidied up in 1990 by the local community and is still maintained though on this occasion the pond was dry and much of the surrounding vegetation seemed overgrown and in need of some repair again.
