Viewed from Morlan Terrace. In the mid 19th century, George Richards Elkington decided to invest in the copper smelting trade. In 1849 the Pembrey Copperworks Company was established alongside the harbour in Burry Port. In 1855 the company built Copperworks School, an infants, girls and boys school, part of which is seen here, as well as houses near the works for its employees. Carmarthenshire County Council have carried out alterations to the buildings under the European Objective One Fund Programme. Burry Port Town Council now rent out the premises to various local societies. The part in view is home to Burry Port Town Band, a traditional brass band.
