Goraghwood, at MP71.71 on the main Dublin - Belfast railway line, was once a major junction and site of a UK Customs' post installed following the partition of Ireland in 1920. The branch line to Armagh closed in 1955, while the branch to Newry and Warrenpoint (together with Goraghwood station and the customs' post) closed in 1965 and most buildings were then demolished. Very little remained when preserved ex-LMS(NCC) class WT 2.6.4T No. 4 passed with a Dublin bound "Steam Enterprise". The site of the former Great Northern Railway (Ireland) quarry, opened in 1911, can just be seen in the background together with a short-lived deviation, installed to derail hijacked trains.
