The Union Jack Club on Sandell Street is a private club for serving and former military personnel. It was originally established in 1907 to provide non-commissioned servicemen with accommodation in London, and Waterloo was chosen because the station gave access to garrison towns and ports. The club moved to these high-rise premises in the 1970s and the facilities are thoroughly modern, but the club continues to serve the same function.
