The inscription reads: This stone was laid by | Alderman Henry Bright J.P. | Mayor of Leamington | October 17 1882. Henry was Leamington's first Liberal mayor. He was instrumental in dragging Leamington into the 19th century. Of Jewish family background, he tirelessly campaigned for improvements to public health and the lives and living conditions of ordinary people. The new Town Hall was one of his many projects.
